Library Takeout & Library Returns

We encourage those currently registered with the Delivery Service to use Library Takeout, a contactless holds pickup service, having a family member, friend or neighbour pick up and deliver items according to outlined provisions of the residence they live in, if not at home. As the Library Takeout service is not a on demand service wait times will be longer than usual. Please take a moment to view the Library Takeout video. Borrowed library materials, can now be returned during designated times, however we are unable to accept the special services bags at this time. We appreciate your patience.

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) Resources

The Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) has Canada's largest collections of books and online resources for people who have difficulty reading print due to a visual, physical, or learning disability. More information on access to their alternative formats and services can be found at their website. A valid Oakville Public Library card is required to enroll in this service.

Delivery Service - Temporarily Unavailable

We provide home delivery of library materials to those confined to their home due to illness or disability. Upon registering with the service a profile of reading preferences is created (this may include talking books, for those with visual disabilities). Library staff uses this profile to select suitable materials for delivery. Volunteers pick up and deliver either every two weeks or once a month.

This service is restricted to persons who have a:

  • Visual disability
  • Physical disability
  • Learning disability

Reading Aids - Temporarily Unavailable

SmartView is a magnifier which enhances all reading materials, including magazines, newspapers, photographs, and more. Available at our Woodside branch. Generously donated by Friends of the Oakville Public Library.

ZoomTextis screen magnification software that allows you to view the library catalogue and the internet in large print. Available at the Central and Woodside branches.

Kurzweil Reading Machines are computers equipped with scanners and specialized software. They allow you to scan printed material, magnify it on the screen, and then have the text read aloud to you. Available at our Central and Woodside branches.
